Q. What is IONO-LYX® B300?
A. IONO-LYX® B300 is the only FDA approved low-moisture block (LMB) with BOVATEC®. It combines the premier LMB, CRYSTALYX® with 300 grams per ton of the premier pasture ionophore, BOVATEC®.

Q. What is BOVATEC®?
A. BOVATEC® is (lasalocid sodium) an organic compound classified as an ionophore because of its ability to facilitate the transport of ions across cell membranes. BOVATEC® positively affects the microbes in the rumen which enable cattle to utilize energy and protein sources more efficiently, and results in improving animal growth, and more importantly, profitability for the cattleman.

Q. What effect does BOVATEC® have on the growth rate of stocker cattle?
A. BOVATEC® has been proven in 84 pasture studies to increase average daily gain by 9.82% or .14 lb per-head, per-day. These trials were conducted with numerous pasture and cattle types across the U.S.

Q. What results can I expect from feeding IONO-LYX® B300?
A. All of the animal performance and grazing benefits of CRYSTALYX® plus the improved growth response of BOVATEC®, neither product detracts from the other; instead they work synergistically to improve the overall health and growth rate of cattle, optimization of pasture grazing and increased efficiencies of labor and equipment resources.

Q. How does IONO-LYX® B300 compare to other delivery methods of BOVATEC®?
A. IONO-LYX® B300 is superior to other feeding methods in many ways. IONO-LYX® B300 contains BOVATEC® plus a scientifically formulated complex nutrient blend of protein, energy, vitamins and minerals and when compared to hand-fed supplements is more convenient and economical. Relative to other free-choice products containing BOVATEC®, IONO-LYX® B300 provides precise, consistent consumption, assuring the correct intake of nutrients and BOVATEC®. University research shows that cattle visit CRYSTALYX® products nearly three times as often as conventional dry mineral and a much higher percentage of the herd visits CRYSTALYX® (~96% of the herd visited CRYSTALYX® compared to only 55% with the conventional dry mineral).

Q. How much IONO-LYX® B300 will my cattle eat?
A. IONO-LYX® B300 intake of cattle fed in the 5 trials conducted for FDA approval, averaged 0.79 lb per- head, per day. Actual intake will vary depending on the size and type of cattle, pasture, weather conditions, and other factors. IONO-LYX® B300 is approved for a wide range of consumption. This range from .4 - 1.3lb per-head, per-day, delivers the approved BOVATEC® level of 60 - 200 mg per- head, per-day.

Q. Why the blue barrel?
A. The blue barrel is part of a conscientious effort by Ridley Block Operations to ensure the highest level of safety and proper use of feed supplements containing the medicated feed additive BOVATEC®. The blue barrel is easily differentiated from non-medicated CRYSTALYX® products in black barrels. The blue barrels are dedicated to IONO-LYX® B300 supplement.

Q. Is BOVATEC® safe for my livestock and other animals?
A. BOVATEC® has a very wide margin of safety for cattle, it is important however to follow all label directions. IONO-LYX® B300 is only approved for increased weight gain in pasture cattle (slaughter, stocker, feeder cattle and dairy and beef replacement heifers). BOVATEC® should not be fed to horses or other equine and the safety of BOVATEC® in unapproved species is not established.

Q. Are there any negative side effects I should be concerned about before using in replacement breeding animals?
A. No, IONO-LYX® B300 is an excellent choice for beef and dairy replacement heifers. BOVATEC® safety studies that were conducted prior to it's approval in breeding heifers and bulls showed that the animals grew faster, reached puberty earlier and conceived at higher rates than the control (non-BOVATEC® fed) groups.

Q. What effects does IONO-LYX® B300 have on public lands and the environment?
A. As with all CRYSTALYX® products, IONO-LYX® B300 can be used as an effective management tool to positively affect grazing patterns of cattle on public and private lands. BOVATEC® reduces methane production and emissions of ruminating cattle, further improving the efficient use of otherwise non-harvestable feedstuffs.

Q. Do I need to withdraw IONO-LYX® B300 prior to slaughter?
A. No, there is no withdrawal period for BOVATEC® or IONO-LYX® B300.

Q. Does IONO-LYX® B300 have a product expiration?
A. No, CRYSTALYX® product including IONO-LYX® B300 has an expiration date. Extended time, temperature, and environmental studies were conducted to establish the stability of BOVATEC® in IONO-LYX® B300. Samples taken from extreme conditions were assayed for BOVATEC®, the data collected and then submitted to the FDA for their consideration and ultimate approval of IONO-LYX® B300.
